Oswegoland PONY Baseball is gearing up for the current season. This means it is time for coaches to turn in their volunteer applications.. If you did not receive an application in the mail, please print a form by clicking the link below.

Coaches - this game is for ALL kids, no matter the talent. We promote skill development and the fun of the game ahead of winning the game. Remember, the players are winners if they have fun and play hard no matter the outcome of the score. The more the kids enjoy the experience of playing for Oswegoland PONY Baseball, the better.

COACH SELECTION & VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP FORM
The following coach selection factors apply to each of the leagues of Oswegoland PONY Baseball. All decisions are determined by the Board of Directors.

All candidates must first complete the Volunteer Application and are subject to a criminal background check. The form will be considered, by the Board of Directors, as the entry point in this process. If approvals of the forms are granted, then the following factors will apply in the selection process:

Primary Factors

  • First preference will be given to a candidate who exhibits the spirit intended of OPB (as a rewarding, fun, learning experience for the youth of school district 308).
  • Preference will be given to a candidate if he/she has a child in the league to which he/she is applying for.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with prior coaching experience, knowledge of the game, and teaching abilities.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate he/she has coached youth sports without incident. "Without Incident" is determined by the feedback received from Board members, umpires, peer coaches, and parents.

Secondary Factors (It is recognized that the above Primary factors may not address all possible scenarios, the attached list shall be used to aid the selection process should major conflicts arise).

  • Preference will be given to a candidate if he/she coached in the league during the last season.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate if he/she coached in the immediate lower league during the last season, without incident, and wishes to continue.
  • In the event of multiple candidates applying for positions that can't accommodate all, preference will be given based upon seniority level (i.e., number of years of coaching experience in the league, or comparable out-of-town league) of the candidate.
  • In some instances, candidates may have multiple children registered in various age groups (ie.Pinto, Mustang, Bronco and Pony divisions).. If this is the case, and a situation exists where multiple candidates have applied for a position that can't accommodate all, a fit in one of the other leagues will be attempted for that candidate.
  • In the event of multiple candidates applying for coaching positions that can't accommodate all, attempts will be made to offer an assistant coaching assignment, should that be acceptable, to the candidate involved.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate if she/he has experienced a level of success from a past coaching experience.
